Why did my dog bite without warning?

Dogs usually give warnings, but they can be subtle or missed. Pain, fear and guarding are common causes. See your veterinarian and a qualified behavior professional.

Is sport bite work the same as aggression?

No. It is a structured sport with trained helpers and rules. It is never a cure for aggression.

Can I teach my dog to bite for protection?

This site does not teach that. Any protection training should be left to qualified, insured professionals, and the legal and safety risks are real.

How can I keep children safe?

Supervise closely, separate when you cannot watch, teach children to leave dogs alone when eating or sleeping and give the dog a safe retreat.

What should I do right after a bite?

Separate the dog calmly, get medical care for any bite that breaks skin and ask your local authority about reporting rules.

Should I punish a growl?

No. A growl is a warning. Punishing it can remove the warning and make a bite more likely.

Who should I call for help?

Begin with your veterinarian, then a qualified behavior professional. Ask about experience, insurance and methods.

Does K9PN offer behavior treatment?

No. K9PN refers people to experienced professionals and does not train dogs.
